According to Luke |
Many persons today look at the Gospels in the New Testament and wonder just how valid they are since the writers were “evangelists”. Others see these writings as literally, “the Gospel truth”. Most persons at either end of the spectrum, however, mix-and-match stories from the four canonical gospels without much regard as to what is in each. While Mark was the first one written, Matthew and John are probably the most popular and widely read of the Gospels. Luke is almost like “George Harrison” of the Beatles – the one least likely to be useful except at Christmas and, maybe, Easter.
However, the author of “According to Luke” was an educated Gentile who did a great deal of research (Luke 1:1-4) before writing “an orderly account…so that you may know the truth concerning the things about which you have been instructed (Luke 1:3b-4)”. Luke is an evangelist, to be sure, but he is also an historian and has been called “the first historian of Christianity”, since he wrote both Luke and Acts in the New Testament.
Come and join us as we journey with Jesus and his disciples, men and women, poor and outcasts, and find more of the truth about Jesus which can make a great difference in living. Join us as we view the life and teachings of Jesus – according to Luke. |
